Hi, I’m Jeff, founder of BobaTalks.
Once upon a time, College Me was going through what most college and university kids went through: being broke, being alone, and being lost. Combine this with horrible grades, no direction, and you'll have the unfortunate college ending of eventually dropping out. I remember the week I decided to opt out - more importantly, I'll always remember how I felt.
And I promised myself, once I made something of myself, I'll make sure nothing like this happens to others again.
*I was extremely lucky to have bounced back from this - spending the next couple of years at Riot Games, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. I even had a pretty nice stint as an (extremely amateur) wedding consultant in the Greater Seattle Area.
Not bad for a college dropout, right?
Somewhere along the way, I wanted to make good on my vow. So I started having some coffee chats here and there. I started taking one or two a week. Then, I started taking one or two a day. Then it became three or four. At first, it was about career stuff. Then the hard conversations came with mental health and identity. There were lots of great conversations, and quite a lot of difficult ones too. But I loved it - the diversity in questions, the students that reached out, the sob stories I've heard. I truly felt that my character arc came full circle. I can now be the person that I didn't get to have when I was in their shoes.
And that's how BobaTalks started. We help students navigate the ambiguities of early career and early life development.
I eventually met some pretty cool people along the way and we've turned my little passion project into a non-profit program that helps college kids get their shit together. To be quite honest, I'm still trying to figure all of this out, and I'm pretty out of my depth sometimes. But that's alright.
We'll figure it out, together.*
